1st Cippenham celebrates their 90th Anniversary by holding a family camp on 15-16 June at Dorney woods! The 90th camp marked a resounding success as attendees enjoyed the celebrations with an unpredictable weather forecast. A total of 108 participants engaged in a variety of afternoon activities, including building the tallest flagpole and an innovative duck rescue from a perforated drainpipe. These hands-on experiences offered parents a glimpse into the adventurous spirit of their children’s camping trips.
A memorable highlight of the day was an impromptu flypast by the Red Arrows, adding an unexpected thrill to the event.
As evening approached, everyone gathered for a hearty dinner made by Ben and the scouts, featuring stew, veggie bolognese with pasta, and a delightful homemade cake with custard. The night continued around a large campfire circle, where past group members joined in. Dan led the group in singing and dancing to traditional songs, including the children’s favourite, “Yellow Bird with a Yellow Bill,” much to their parents’ amusement.
The following morning, a robust breakfast fueled the participants for the sedan chair race, where parents raced through woods and mounds, solving an anagram and competing to retain the most water in a bucket. The competitive spirit display confirmed that the children’s zeal is inherited from their parents. Young leaders kept the children entertained with a game of puttocks while parents enjoyed a much-deserved rest. A quick lunch followed, leading to the camp’s conclusion with a heartfelt thank you to all participants.
