Training Advisers (TAs) have an essential job in providing advice and validation for those working towards their Wood Badge.
Who can become a TA?
Any adult can apply to become a TA, previous experience in Scouting isn’t necessary.
Training sessions are regularly run for those interested in becoming TAs across Berkshire. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact [email protected]
What does a TA do?
- Provides support for the adults in training;
- advises on which modules an adult needs to complete for their role;
- works with the volunteer to develop a Personal Learning Plan that combines validation plans for some modules based on the adult’s previous experience, in or out of Scouting, and a plan for further learning on courses if needed;
- records the successful validation of all the modules necessary for the role in Compass.
What support do TAs get?
TAs are supported by a Local Training Manager, Local Training Administrator and the Deputy County Training Manager, and work closely with leaders in their District to ensure all of our volunteers are properly qualified for their roles in accordance with the Policy, Organisation & Rules of The Scout Association. Key documents for TAs are here.
TAs meet each of their learners once a term to update the Personal Learning Plan and validate modules as appropriate. The TAs in a District also meet 2–3 times a year as a group to update on developments, share ideas and ensure all of the group are supported in their important work.
