This course is to learn the basics of climbing to allow the development of personal skills required to pass a climbing centre entrance test and to start towards developing into a climbing instructor or just to have a go and climb for fun. No Previous climbing experience required. All learn to climb courses include use of harnesses, helmets and belay devices. The course is run by qualified instructors from the Climbing Unit over 3 evenings of 2 hours each. Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.

Cost £50 Per Person

We can organise this course upon request and minimum numbers being achieved by arrangement.

 

 

 

Intro to Rock  

 

This course is to learn the basics of outdoor natural rock climbing to allow the development of personal skills and to start towards developing into a single pitch climbing instructor (if you wanted to) or just to have a go and climb for fun. Previous climbing experience required to be a confident indoor climber grades F5a and above. All climbing courses include use of harnesses, helmets and belay devices. The course is run by qualified instructors from the Climbing Unit. The course will be for a single day at Symonds Yat (but if patisipants want we could do a full weekend at this venue or at the peak district. No transport, food or accomodation is inculded but we would hope for the group to share lifts. Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.
 

 

Climbing Wall Instructor Training

This course is the training course to help progress from being a climber into a leadership instructor. The course covers basic teaching and group management, harnessing of groups, POR, and setting up climbs. Previous experience required is to be able to correctly fit own harness, correctly tie in with a figure of 8, belay safely and perform basic climbing moves. Climbing harnesses, helmets and belay plates can be supplied upon request (when booked) .Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.

Cost £15 per head for those who do not wish to commit to providing climbing in Berkshire Scouting and £7.50 for those who are happy to commit.

 

Climbing Wall Abseiling Training

This course is the training course to deliver the skills in a training environment to set up and run a releasable group abseil system and perform abseil rescues and carryout self-protected abseils. Previous experience required is to be able to correctly fit own harness, correctly tie in with a figure of 8, belay safely and perform basic climbing moves. Climbing harnesses, helmets and belay plates can be supplied upon request (when booked). Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.

Cost £20 per head for those who do not wish to commit to providing climbing in Berkshire Scouting and £10 for those who are happy to commit.

Crate Stacking Training

This course is the training course to deliver the skills in a training environment to set up and run a crate stacking system and operate it. Previous experience required is to be able to correctly fit own harness, correctly tie in with a figure of 8, belay safely. Climbing harnesses, helmets and belay plates can be supplied upon request. Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.

Cost £20 per head for those who do not wish to commit to providing climbing in Berkshire Scouting and £10 for those who are happy to commit.

Outdoor Climbing Instructor Training

This course is the training course to help progress from being a climber into a leadership instructor on natural rock. The course covers basic teaching and group management, harnessing of groups, POR, and setting up climbs in a crag environment. Previous experience required is to be able to correctly fit own harness, correctly tie in with a figure of 8, belay safely, perform basic climbing moves and have carried out 15 trad lead climbs using leader placed protection. Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants. The course will be held at Symonds Yat and meet in car park by W/C block.

Cost £40 per head for those who do not wish to commit to providing climbing in Berkshire Scouting and £20 for those who are happy to commit. Please note – No food/accommodation or transport is provided. But we would suggest camping at Bracelands (www.campingintheforest.co.uk) and would hope participants would car share.

Group assessment day for a scout climbing permit. This is for any person who has gained logged climbing experience and feels that they meet the requirement of the Scout Associations rules. Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.

Cost £15 per head for those who do not wish to commit to providing climbing in Berkshire Scouting and £7.50 for those who are happy to commit.

 

 

Climbing Wall Abseiling Assessment

Group assessment day for a Scout Abseiling Permit. This is for any person who has gained logged abseiling experience and feels that they meet the requirement of the Scout Associations rules. Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.

Cost £20 per head for those who do not wish to commit to providing climbing in Berkshire Scouting and £10 for those who are happy to commit.

Crate Stacking Assessment

Group assessment day for a Scout Crate Stacking Permit. This is for any person who has gained logged crate stacking experience and feels that they meet the requirement of the Scout Associations rules. Minimum course size is 4 max 10 participants.

Cost £20 per head for those who do not wish to commit to providing climbing in Berkshire Scouting and £10 for those who are happy to commit.
