Project Africa - Global Awareness Programme

The PA Global Awarenss Programme (GAP) is part of the Berkshire Scouts international initiative to learn about life in Africa and to support the projects that make up the Berkshire Scouts programme. Visit the Project Africa web page and use the various links to learn about Uganda 2011, PA Teachers project, the Challenge Badge, and Uganda 2015.

The GAP web page provides online resources so sections can learn about life in Africa and get to know about the lives of their peers in Africa, and Uganda in particular.

SOS Children's Villages

SOS Children's villages has engaging, interactive ideas to encourage Scouts in all sections to develop an interest in the lives of children in other parts of the world. Caring for children in over 120 countries, a focus on the work of SOS Children is a good way to show scouts the challenges young people in other countries face, and to learn about possible solutions to poverty related problems.

With resources like "Musical Chairs" to explore children's rights, "Where in the world" quiz or "Poverty poker" to challenge our assomptions and attitudes to child poverty, every section is catered for. More activities, printables, films and lesson plans are available on the teachers' page, providing great information on African countries.

The Converging World activity pack.

In collaboration with Avon Scouts the Converging World team have developed an activity pack for Scouts which is intended to help them learn about climate change and social inequality in a fun and engaging way.

The Scout pack includes a number of activities for all the different Scouting ages to enjoy.

From word searches, quizzes, hosting an Indian themed evening, to actually building your own wind turbine!

Scout leaders can use the pack to promote the learning and understanding of different cultures, the effects of climate change on people living here in the UK and in India, renewable energy, social inequality and perhaps most importantly the big difference that small actions can and do make.

You can download the pack here and you can read more about TCW and their work by visiting the website at
